So much great music, so little space to play it...
A new mix, a new radio show & concert cancellations
Hey, all of you lovely humans who have subscribed! I really appreciate your time and space in your inbox.
Soo… Jazz Adjacent 5 has landed.
Holding promises to oneself is so darn gratifying ain’t it?
And yes I have also provided another video of a personal party in my apartment. I am slowly learning to set up different camera angles.
You will witness the struggle. And yes, please chuckle along with me.
After years of doing TV professionally (13 years to be exact), I didn’t want to return to being “on camera”. But like many multi-hyphenate artists, I have been dealing with the complexities of balancing self-generated voyeurism and my art existing as its own entity.
It’s been a hard conversation with my lovely little monster ego.

Made In China | TSF Jazz
For all of my francophiles out there. A new episode of my monthly magazine aired. You can listen back here (subscribe & leave a comment even)
This month my guests are:
Wolfgang Valbrun, the raspy raw soulful vocalist of the Ephemerals. He is releasing his debut solo album, ‘Flawed By Design’, on Jalapeno Records May 31st. He is a New Yorker of Hatian decent who now is based in Paris. The first time we shared the stage in Paris my mind was blown. He really has that inexplicable “soul” thing.
Rhoda Tchokokam, the photographer/artistic director/music journalist penned a surprising book on the french Rn’B scene, ‘Sensibles: une histoire du R&B français’ (Audimat). I already hear you whisper internally “French R’nB scene? Wot ise dis?” But the scene has existed for a while. I came through that scene and even though it gained a huge popularity, the beautiful Black and Brown people who generated it have widely been ignored and artistically undervalued by the mainstream media (sound familiar?).
The Montreux Years | Jazz FM
I am hosting a new show for the month of May on Jazz FM every Saturday 9PM (along with my regular Mon-Th 10PM slot)
It’s a fun deep dive through the Montreux Jazz Festival archive.
Each show is dedicated to one artist and their multiple performances at the Festival throughout the years: Etta James, Dr, John, Muddy Waters, Chick Corea are my choices.
I truly enjoy searching through articles and reviews to find lil’ tidbits about the concerts, who else was performing that year, what the critics at the time said about it, who was in the band…
Listen back to the first episode with the Goddess of Blues - Etta James.
Cancellations (and additions)
Unfortunately, my gig in Madrid, Spain June 28th is cancelled. It seems like the Festival ‘Jazz Sierra Norte’ isn’t even happening. The team is unreachable, the website is down, no updates on their socials. The team just ghosted us!
But I am happy to announce I will be performing with the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra at Jazz at Lincon Center in NYC May 17th & 18th part of the Battle of The Big Bands. That is going to be fun!
I realize that I am part of the small community of women who post about music here on Substack
Here is a thread if you are looking to support other women writers.
I have started this substack to let you know about the artists & sounds that my ears have fallen in love with. (And to also, every once in a while, share on my artistic journey.) As I like to say music is love so we gotta keep on sharing the love!
Hope your family & loved ones are doing well…
