Jumping off a cliff I've been staring over for a while: starting a regular monthly music series.
This all started in 2019, when the intuitively clever tastemaker and supporter of all things outer genres, Gilles Peterson invited me to do a set at one of my favourite festivals ‘Worldwide Festival’ in Sete, France.
Listen back to the mix (and yes a bottle of champagne was my requirement)
I will always remember… I was coming straight from a gig the night before. I was nervous. Thanks to Pirate Studios, I had rehearsed my set a few weeks before, but of course, lack of sleep + spinning records in front of a hyper knowledgeable crowd made it feel like I was passing a “cool kids” test.
Jez Nelson was off to the side, nodding his head in approval. People started to smile. I started singing over instrumentals. People started to dance. I started to sweat. I would pull music to a halt and start talking, then take a hard left turn…
I came up with the name “sans transition” - no transition for those who don’t parlé parlé le Français.
And it stuck. So, that's my official DJ name. But truth be told, I'm not a DJ, and I doubt I'll ever be one, but I can definitely select some tunes and keep people dancing a bit.
So that is kinda sorta what brought me here to a new monthly mix.
The only thing is, I accidentally messed up the mic audio during the WHOLE mix! Like how could I do that?! Microphones and EQs are my life! You can’t imagine how many times I face palmed myself.
But, I've learned from my over 10 years as a radio broadcaster that while you may not win an award, if the music sounds good, so be it. Glitches happen, and as long as they don't repeat, let's call it a learning curve.
So, here it is, my monthly mix of almost exclusively new tunes that I don’t have space to play on air. You can listen on Mixcloud or even watch the video to catch a glimpse of the joy I had jammin’ in my living room.

There's so much great music out there, and so little space to play it. What are some of the mixes/people you look towards when it comes to discovering new music?
I have started this substack to let you know about the artists & sounds that my ears have fallen in love with. (And to also, every once in a while, share on my artistic journey.) As I like to say music is love so we gotta keep on sharing the love!
Hope your family & loved ones are doing well…
